..Stats Story.... By Philip Martin
While attending the Doberman Pinscher Nationals many years ago I saw a dog that was not only in the Top 20 for Conformation but was also in the Top 20 for Obedience*. The dog was Ch. Wingates leading Edge (Ryan) he was the only doberman to ever do this in the same year. After this feat the Doberman Pinscher Club of America made this an official award in recognition of "Ryan", this was to be awarded to any dog that ever again accomplieshed this very difficult task!
Along came my very special puppy Stat. Stat finished his AKC breed championship at 8 months of age!
After a move to Charleston in 2002 and Stat being less then a year old I began training with Kim. Teaching Stat the foundations for competitive obedience, until he was old enough to start his specials career in the conformation ring. I would travel every 3 weeks or so and train with Kim while she trained me to train Stat.
While training with Kim I thought that earning the "Ryan" award would be the greatest accomplishment, as it would be the total package Brains and Beauty!
Kim helped me achieve this DREAM!
In 2007 Stat became ONE OF ONLY TWO DOGS IN THE HISTORY OF THE BREED TO DO THIS!
Stat was a Top 20 Doberman in Conformation in 2005 ,2006 and in 2007 a Top 20 contender in both Conformation and Obedience.(Something that had only been done once 12 yrs prior)
In November of 2006 I asked Kim if she thought we could get Stat in the Top 20 obedience for 2007. We had 5 months , so Stat stayed with Kim the month of November and part of December for training and to begin competing. We then took him to the Florida circuit and continued training in between showing in conformation .
The top 20 ended the first of May and by then Stat with Kim had received 8 scores of 195 and higher, a job that would NEVER have been accomplished without Kims loyalty and dedication ! To this I say thank you KIM!! AT the 2007 Doberman Pinscher Nationals Stat received the Ryan Award an official award recoginzed by the Doberman Pinscher Club of America . Again, I say Thank you Kim for helping to achieve such a feat!!! Philip
